World OceanFest Mayors' Sustainability Conference
Event: Tampa, Florida, is hosting a World OceanFest to address conservation of oceans and inland waters. District Energy Climate Summit
Event: Policymakers, parliamentarians and energy professionals will meet in Copenhagen on the 3rd of November to discuss District Heating and Cooling: it’s potential in fighting climate change; contributing their knowledge of best practice and their experience with this energy form. DHC offers the toolbox to enable cities to achieve their climate change targets. The summit will present and explain how more DHC can result in tremendous CO2 savings. DHC already exists; it has a proven track record in providing energy efficient, environmentally sound methods of heating and cooling buildings. It is convenient, easy to operate and reliable.
This International Summit is organized by representative organisations of the district energy sector, and is listed as an official side-event to the Conference of the Parties, and will include the first ever District Energy Climate Awards. The awards will recognize the achievements of cities and communities across the globe, which demonstrate local district energy leadership, in providing clean, sustainable energy solutions. The International Energy Agency is chairing the evaluation committee.

Hamburg City Climate Conference 2009

EUROCITIES 2009 Stockholm
Event: EUROCITIES, the network of major European cities, is pleased to announce its annual conference, this year taking place in the City of Stockholm. The event will focus on the theme of urban challenges, sustainable solutions‚ specific to climate change and economic development.
Stockholm has just been designated European Green Capital 2010, which is testimony to its reputation for pioneering environmental solutions in combination with high economic growth. EUROCITIES 2009 Stockholm will highlight how all local governments across Europe are addressing the effects of climate change while pursuing economic growth. Both these policy areas are priorities for the Swedish Presidency of the EU.
Some highlights of the 2008 EUROCITIES conference will include:

Rotterdam Global Urban Summit

Eco-Architecture 2010
Event: This third International Conference on Harmonisation between Architecture and Nature (Eco-Architecture 2010) follows the two successful meetings which were held in the New Forest, UK (2006) and in the Algarve, Portugal (2008). The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for discussing the many relevant aspects of Eco-Architecture: by definition it is inter-disciplinary and requires the collaboration of engineers, planners, physicists, psychologists, sociologists, economists, and other specialists, in addition to architects.

6th European Sustainable Cities & Towns Conference
Event:
The Dunkerque 2010 conference will explore how local sustainability can represent an answer to the current economic, social and climate challenges and how it can be further implemented at the European level under the actual financial and political frameworks. It will also offer a unique opportunity to assess and push forward the progress and achievements of European local governments in the field of sustainable development.
After the successful conferences of Aalborg 1994, Lisbon 1996, Hanover 2000, Aalborg 2004 and Sevilla 2007, more than 1000 local government leaders as well as representatives of local government networks, European institutions and NGOs are expected to take part in the largest European conference dedicated to local sustainable development.

Waste Management 2010
Event: The International Conference on Waste Management and the Environment is organised every two years by the Wessex Institute of Technology in collaboration with other institutions. This fifth conference follows the success of previous meetings held in Cádiz (2002), Rhodes (2004), Malta (2006) and Granada (2008). With our growing awareness of the detrimental environmental effects of current waste disposal, there is a significant onus of accountability for effective waste management. Better practice and safer solutions are required. Not only is there a need for more research on current disposal methods such as landfill, incineration, chemical and effluent treatment, but also on recycling, waste minimisation, clean technologies, waste monitoring, public and corporate awareness, and general education.

1st International UGEC Science & Practice Conference
Event:
The Urbanization and Global Environmental Change (UGEC) project, a core project of the International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP) on Global Environmental Change has been leading the way towards a stronger collaboration between academics, decision-makers, and practitioners in order to capture the benefits of urbanization and develop and conceptualize strategies to mitigate and adapt to global environmental change. Researchers and practitioners in the UGEC network continue to explore new themes within the framework of Global Environmental Change (GEC) science, focusing on the impacts of GEC on urban areas and the responses of urban areas to those impacts.
The event will be open to scientists, policymakers and the general public and will provide a comprehensive perspective of current knowledge of the dynamic and complex interactions between urbanization and global environmental change.
The 1st International UGEC Science & Practice Conference will work back to back with the Global Land Project (GLP) Open Science Meeting. GLP is a joint research project for land systems for the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and IHDP.
