Japan Day Seminar
Event: The Japan Day Seminar is an annual event hosted by the Japan Local Government Centre to raise awareness of Japan and Japanese local government and provide a real-time opportunity to exchange information and ideas on local government policy and best practice concerning both the UK and Japan. Marking the 20th anniversary of the Japan Local Government Centre in London, 2009‚s Japan Day Seminar will be held in partnership with the Local Government Association at Local Government House, Westminster, London, on Monday the 23rd of November and will examine the different strategies that local authorities in Japan and the UK have adopted to deal with issues brought on by the recession.

EUROCITIES 2009 Stockholm
Event: EUROCITIES, the network of major European cities, is pleased to announce its annual conference, this year taking place in the City of Stockholm. The event will focus on the theme of urban challenges, sustainable solutions‚ specific to climate change and economic development.
Stockholm has just been designated European Green Capital 2010, which is testimony to its reputation for pioneering environmental solutions in combination with high economic growth. EUROCITIES 2009 Stockholm will highlight how all local governments across Europe are addressing the effects of climate change while pursuing economic growth. Both these policy areas are priorities for the Swedish Presidency of the EU.
Some highlights of the 2008 EUROCITIES conference will include:
• EUROCITIES‚ Awards 2009, which recognise exceptional work by cities
• The Stockholm Appeal from mayors of Europe‚s biggest cities to negotiators of the UN COP15 in December 2009

Rotterdam Global Urban Summit

1st International UGEC Science & Practice Conference
Event:
The Urbanization and Global Environmental Change (UGEC) project, a core project of the International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP) on Global Environmental Change has been leading the way towards a stronger collaboration between academics, decision-makers, and practitioners in order to capture the benefits of urbanization and develop and conceptualize strategies to mitigate and adapt to global environmental change. Researchers and practitioners in the UGEC network continue to explore new themes within the framework of Global Environmental Change (GEC) science, focusing on the impacts of GEC on urban areas and the responses of urban areas to those impacts.
The event will be open to scientists, policymakers and the general public and will provide a comprehensive perspective of current knowledge of the dynamic and complex interactions between urbanization and global environmental change.
The 1st International UGEC Science & Practice Conference will work back to back with the Global Land Project (GLP) Open Science Meeting. GLP is a joint research project for land systems for the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and IHDP.

2010 Global Mayors Forum
Event: The theme of the 2010 Global Mayors Forum is ‘High Growth Cities: Meeting the Challenges for Sustainability’. Some 1,000 distinguished guests from all over the world are expecting to attend the Forum. They are: 200 mayors, 500 top global investors, 200 top urban operators, 100 experts on urban development and dozens of officials from the UN.
The Global Mayors Forum aims at establishing powerful win-win cooperation, to enable the best of the Forum and enabling each part to get desirable benefits.
